Theme
Lather and Nothing Else-That taking human life is easier said than done.
-I believe this is a theme of the story because of how much the barber debates killing captain Torres. Also a another thing that I believe that this is the theme is a comment made by Torres "They told me you would kill me. I came to find out if that was true. But its not easy to kill. I know what I'm talking about." |
Similarities-You should try to be your unique self even if it makes you go against the expectations of society.
-I think this is a theme in both stories because even though both characters have society looming over them telling them how to behave they both end up doing what they think is right. The society the Barber is in expects him to kill captain Torres but since the Barber has strong morals and does not feel like a killer he decides to do what he believes is the right thing to do which is let Torres live. Harrison on the other hand also is doing what he believes is right by despite society telling him otherwise by rebelling against the government for forcing people to wear these handicaps. |
Harrison Bergeron-That it is good to have unique strengths and weaknesses.
-I think the author is trying to say this because he makes this equal world so boring and bland where no one strives for anything because everyone is exactly the same. You are not able to improve yourself or even really be yourself because these handicaps would prevent you from being who you can be. |
